A Place of Significance

I love construction, if I could, I would have loved to go into designing buildings or construction of some sorts. Whenever there is a new building going up where I live, I ‘Google It’ to see what it’s going to be! – Other online search engines are available.

Come with me if you will, to consider the following…

Two buildings have six rooms – one building has the six rooms on separate floors on top of one another. The other has all for rooms on the same level.

Which building has a greater impact?

Both buildings are the same size and same shape, however the difference is the building with six floors has height. Everyone can see it from a far where the other building will blend into its surroundings. The building with the six floors has an impact, it is visible, it stands out.

What makes the six-storey building that is taller very different is that it not only has height, but it has depth. It has deep foundations to which the six floors are built on.

So why do I bore you with my obsessiveness about tall buildings. As a follower of Jesus, I believe the logic is the same, to have an impact in our communities and the people we interact with, we need to have a strong foundation in Jesus.

1 Corinthians 3: 10-11
By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Jesus laid the foundation, He himself and then He was crucified for our sin. It is a foundation we need. I believe as a Christian I need to ground myself in this to be able to stand tall and share the hope and grace that comes with relationship with Jesus.

People are fascinated with going to see tall buildings and going to top to see the view. Architects want to make taller buildings even taller… We travel from far and wide to go to the top of The Shard in London, or the Empire State Building in NYC, and if you’re a true ‘adventurer’ you may go to Dubai, up the current world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. People want to see these buildings, they have an impact, they affect culture, they affect commerce. No one’s really bothered about a one story building. We are striving for height, as this is where the impact is!

I believe that followers of Jesus are not meant to be spectators, but people who are willing to go deeper, to make a higher impact. I want to get a greater understanding of Jesus and his simple purpose – to know Him and make Him known, and to enjoy the grace of Jesus while spreading the gospel of Jesus.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post, I hope it helps and motivates us all to draw closer to Jesus and His mission.

Simply awesome! Such a great reminder of an incredible truth.
Love that we can go deeper, but in doing so it’s not to build our own foundation, but more that we’re putting ourselves stronger into the foundation already laid. Then we can contribute to an incredible building that sits on this strong foundation.
    Love it, thanks for sharing.
